ASIAN AF: THE HIT ASIAN AMERICAN VARIETY SHOW IN LA & NY

 
 

ASIAN AF is the first Asian American variety show on the UCB Theatre main stage. After the incredible success of "Scarlett Johansson Presents" in the UCB Inner Sanctum, the UCB Theatre gave Will Choi and Mike Lane a new show to showcase all the comedic Asian American talent. The first show took place on November, 29th, 2016, where tickets sold out in only a few days. It featured co-host Connie Shin, stand-up Jenny Yang, the UCB Maude Superteam (sketch comedy), the UCB Mess Hall Superteam, and VOLTRON: The UCB Superteam (improv).

The second Asian AF show took place on January 21, 2017 and featured co-host Connie Shin, stand-up Atsuko Okatsuka, musicians Dia Frampton & Jae Jin, Chinese Lion Dancers Mark Elefane & Andy Ta, the UCB Maude Superteam (sketch comedy) and VOLTRON: The UCB Superteam (improv). Tickets sold out in two days.


The third Asian AF show was on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 and featured co-host Connie Shin, comedian Sheng Wang, musical comedian Kevin Yee, sketches by a CBS Diversity Superteam, and improv by VOLTRON: The UCB Superteam. Tickets sold out in one day.

The fourth sold out Asian AF show was on Friday, March 24th, 2017 and featured co-host Connie Shin, comedian Marques Ray, musicians Jane Lui & Paul Dateh, sketches by Amrita Dhaliwal, Susan Song, and Chuck Maa & Geo Lee from SeventhGrade, and improv by VOLTRON: The UCB Superteam.

Asian AF on April 28, 2017 featured a special performance by Alex Hwang from the band Run River North, a sketch by Kay Kaanapu, Kaitlyn Tanimoto, & Dione Kuraoka, improv by VOLTRON: The UCB Superteam, an encore presentation of "Ghost In the Shell: The Musical" written by Will Choi, Mike Lane, and Tess Paras, and our surprise stand-up comedian of the evening - Margaret Cho!

Asian AF celebrated a special AAPI Heritage Month show with stand-up by Kiran Deol, storytelling by acting veteran Amy Hill, improv by VOLTRON: The UCB Superteam with monologues provided by actor Lewis Tan, and a special interview with Kulap Vilaysack and a screening of an upcoming episode of her show, "Bajillion Dollar Properties".

Asian AF's June show featured a character monologue by Suzy Nakamura from "Dr. Ken", stand-up by Long You, a sketch video featuring Marques Ray and Randall Park, a game show originally done by the Elite Daily Show, and improv by VOLTRON: The UCB Superteam with monologues provided by Suzy Nakamura. This was Keiko Agena's first time hosting Asian AF!

Asian AF had its first sold out show in New York! Held at the UCB East Theatre, Asian AF NY featured mostly New York talent - Headliner Aparna Nancherla, musical comedian Kevin Yee, stand-up by Brian Park, sketches written by Alex Song, sketch videos by Marques Ray and Randall Park, a special appearance by Fresh Off the Boat's Hudson Yang, and improv by the New York UCB Superteam
